This institute aims to spread higher education in an area of rural backwardness. The college aims to make avenues for the future generation of the rural area to become a self-competent human being. The chemistry department of this institution started its journey in 2005 with only a B.Sc. General Degree Course under the affiliation of Burdwan University. In the year of 2011, the Institute get the affiliation from Sidhu Kanho Birsha University. The department offered B.Sc. Program course with the combination of Chemistry, Zoology, botany, Physics, and Mathematics through the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2018. From 2023-2024 onwards, the department started to provide Major course in chemistry through National Educational Policy 2020. Apart from that, it also offers multi-disciplinary courses (MDC in Physical Science) and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) in different semesters of the classes.
Studying chemistry is an immensely fascinating subject. Chemistry is a vital feature of our planet and influences nearly every area of our existence, making it a part of everyone's life. Our basic needs for food, clothing, shelter, energy, health, clean air, water, and soil are all dependent on chemistry. Chemical technologies improve our quality of life in many ways by offering fresh approaches to issues with materials, energy, and health. As a result, learning about chemistry helps us get ready for the actual world. Because it connects physics and mathematics, biology and medicine, and the earth and environmental sciences, chemistry is frequently referred to as the central science. Therefore, understanding the nature of chemicals and chemical processes helps explain a wide range of physical and biological phenomena. Understanding chemistry is beneficial as it offers a solid foundation for comprehending the physical universe in which we exist. Whether we like it or not, everything is chemical.
The department proposes to establish an environment that encourages, promotes, and stimulates people's intellectual, professional, and personal development. They are improving their chemistry skills through audio-visual learning, and online lessons have been set up to ensure they don't fall behind their goals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Google Meet is an online platform that allows students to take lessons constantly. Additionally, students can access their class notes via email, Whatsapp, and occasionally the college website. Over time, Google Forms and WhatsApp are used to evaluate their studies. In current NEP curriculum some percentages of classes are carried out in online mode.
