About Department

The department was started in the year 2005 with only B.Sc. General Degree Courses. From the very beginning, the main objective of this department has been to spread the knowledge of plant science mainly among the students of the rural areas and to help them to be established in the future through this scientific education in this modern era. The study of Botany is vital as plants are fundamental part of life on earth. The curriculum for the B.Sc. Botany Programme has been designed with an aim of encouraging the broad instructional goals and to support the growing demands and challenging trends in the educational scenario. It targets at providing an environment that encourages, promotes and stimulates the intellectual, professional and personal development of the students. In the academic session of 2017-2018, the CBCS system as laid out by UGC was adopted by department whereby the semester system was introduced.

The main objective of the department is to impart the knowledge of plant science to the students of the rural areas through practical and field work besides studying in class. In the current pandemic situation, online classes have been arranged so that they do not lag behind their targets and they are advancing their botany practice through audio-visual learning. With the help of online platform Google Meet, students are continuously taking classes and their respective class notes are also being provided on Whatsapp, email and sometime in college website. Over time their study evaluation are being done through Google form and Whatsapp.

The Department of Botany offers a comprehensive B.Sc. (Program) curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in modern plant sciences. The course structure covers a wide array of subjects including:

  • Plant Ecology and Biodiversity

  • Plant Taxonomy

  • Molecular Biology

  • Plant Biochemistry

  • Plant Genetics

  • Paleobotany & Palynology

  • Plant Physiology

  • Biotechnology

Each topic is taught with an emphasis on conceptual clarity, practical application, and interdisciplinary learning, empowering students to understand the dynamics of plant life from molecular to ecosystem levels.

🌿 New from 2024 – Botany as a Major Subject!
In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department proudly introduced Botany as a Major discipline from the academic year 2024. This advancement opens up enriched learning pathways and deeper specialization in botanical sciences, offering students greater academic flexibility and research-oriented training.

With a perfect blend of traditional knowledge and modern advancements, the department is committed to nurturing future botanists, researchers, and environmental professionals.
